The Best Shady Grove Hotel: Comfort Inn
Why: Free Parking, Shuttle to the Metro, Breakfast & Wifi
There are three hotel options near the Shady Grove Metro. We recommend the Comfort Inn for its modest rates, free parking, shuttle to the airport, and free breakfast. The hotel is a 20 minute walk to the Metro Station which might be okay in nice weather. If you can’t tolerate waiting for the hotel shuttle parking is available at the Metro station for $5 per day. A vast majority of reviews praise the Comfort Inn as an adequate and affordable hotel. For those reasons the Comfort Inn stands out as an excellent choice for a budget minded trip to DC.
As for other hotels near the Shady Grove Metro, Red Roof usually will not stand out to most travelers, but those who truly need an economy minded option should consider it. A few blocks away there are a handful of hotels that are right off the I-270 exit, none of these hotels are within walk distance to the Metro, but if you want to park the car at the station its only a short 5 min drive away.
Compare Shady Grove HotelsShady Grove Neighborhood: Shady Grove is the best location to consider for travelers coming north down either I-95, or I-270. There are no hotels within a short walk to the Metro, but the local hotel offer shuttle service to and from the Metro. If that is not appealing then parking is available at the station for $5 and there are 77 spaces available. While the commute into on the Metro D.C. is about 40 minutes the savings on hotels is usually consistent. Some of the hotels are within walking distance, but most people will want to utilize the hotel shuttle or drive over to the station where parking is available. The area is suburban Washington, DC. The Shady Grove metro stop is at the very end of the red line in between Rockville and Gaithersburg, Maryland. This area is suburban, filled with office parks and housing developments. Convenient to I270, this metro stop offers free and plentiful parking on weekends. However, the ride into downtown DC will take approximately 45 minutes.
Things to Do: Close to the Shady Grove metro is RIO Washington Center, which, in addition to dining, offers shopping, a movie theater, and a lake with paddleboats and a walking trail. Gaithersburg also offers its share of historic sights, include Old Towne. Mountain bikers should head to Schaeffer Farms Mountain Bike Trail for a variety of exciting trails.
What to Eat: As is common to the Maryland and Virginia suburbs, you’ll find a mix of national chain restaurants, such as The Melting Pot, mixed in with local establishments like neighborhood Italian staple Fontina Grill. This area is not walkable, but if you’re willing to drive a bit you’ll find plenty of options, particularly as you head in to Gaithersburg. For beer aficionados, head to Gaithersburg to visit the Flying Dog Brewery and make a stop at Dogfish Head Alehouse, a local outpost for the Delaware-based craft brewery, which also offers live music.
